Quote from Chinese Odyssey 2002

Li Yilong:
"Often, if one loves too deeply, it is intoxicating
If one hates too long, the heart is easily shattered
The Most painful experience in life, however, is waiting
I dont know how long she waited.
I thought all along I would never see her again.
Suddenly, I didnt know what to say
I couldn't figure out how to say ...
to tell her i really love her"

Slightly Overwhelmed by Dvd Galore

A fren commented that my blog is full of posts about my dvd purchases and it was boring ... so I'm going to lump my excitement into one post in order not to bored my remaining readers

This couple of weeks, I was hit by DVDs all over ... USA, Hong Kong and even Korea ... all thanks to the DD sale, and two friends who went overseas but kanna tasked by me to find dvds (which I am very thankful for)

My First Batch from Deep Discount

Came Last week (took only slightly more than 10 working days, way faster than other Singaporean who order before me) and after sorting out Shaiful and Stefan dvds out, it felt like I bought too few Dvds this time round ... yeah became greedy specially when I saw Shaiful's The Mist 2 Disc Edition.

Watching Red Dragon, I really got the urge to buy Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal, in order to watch three of them back to back ... Dodgeball didn't feel so fun watching the second time round but I had fun with the Easter eggs (yes I m such a nerd).

My Second Batch from Hong Kong

I gone and done it again, trouble Linus to buy dvds for me during his usual yearly visit to HK (even tho I swear never again) ... this time, lesser in dvds but it cost more than the last round.

Trivial stuff ... while watching the interview section in A Chinese Odyssey with the director, I realized that Linus actually gotten for me 3 of Director Jeff Lau flicks, A Chinese Odyssey, Chinese Odyssey 2002 and Eagle Shooting Heroes! There are plenty of cross reference to Ashes of Time in that three movies. Tony Leung also starred in 3 of the Dvds in this batch! and last thing that I realized ... almost all the dvds are from Mei Ai! before this batch arrival, all my HK dvds are either from Fortune Star, Universe, Media Asia or Paranoma (and one from Edko) ... Trivial matters but I can't help noticing it.

My Third Batch from Korea

The Most Surprising batch of all ... I wasn't expecting much when I asked Kong to check out a few Dvds for me in Korea and not only did he find almost half of what I am looking for, he got it at half the price of what was listed online website (and most had already declared it as out of stock)

Such as the Le Grand Chef ... which had been listed as sold out by most Korea Online stores and even Yesasia, only one website is selling it and it cost 85 US dollars (excluding shipping which work out to another 20 US dollars)

then there the Host Limited Collector 4 Disc Edition ... which is suffering the same fate as Le Grand Chef too ! Not really a fan but the packaging looks really nice ... so nice until I cant bear to open the shrink wrapping!

Even Managed to get the Good The Bad and the Weird Ost for me (which I'm listening to while writing this post)

so happy with my increasing collection of dvds but I am kinda running out of space to store them : )

will be watchin watchmen and ...

A couple of movies that got into my radar alert ...
WatchMen

Coolest trailer of the week. Love the way they used one of the Smashing Pumpkins' track (which I can't remember the title of the song) to create that moody atmosphere with blazing visuals.

And in your darkest hour, I hold secrets flame la la la

Trailer here

*update
the song turned out to be "The Beginning is the End is the Beginning" (I can sense one Smashing Pumpkin die hard fan sigh as she was about to msg me with the title but found out that I found the title liao ... thanks anyway ... nowadays its so easy to search the title out with the lyrics)

anyway the song was used for Batman and Robin OST ... yup the film that stink so bad that it nearly killed the franchise and still often do get mention when people rave about Batman Begins n The Dark Knight (yes ... people do like to compare shit and gold)

Mr Fan wonder if it's any indication to use this song for the trailer ... to which I felt that the director is trying to do what Director Nolan is doing (Mr Fan said Mr Nolan is showing both previous Batman directors that how Batman can be Dark and still effective in the Box Office ... aka took the toys they played with and made a masterpiece out of it) ... Mr Snyder might be doing that too, show that an awesome song used for a crappy flick can be reborn and compliment a better flick.

Cant tell much yet ... gotto wait till 20 months later

Flash of Genius

One Man Vs One Big Corporation ... I am sold !

Trailer here

Sixty Six

A Kid wanting his 15 mins of attention on his birthday only to find out that it going to coincide with the world cup final and the country that he is in got a shot at the final ... his misery my entertainment : )

One Liners & Q&A

Found something funny that crack me up ... but hey you can laugh at them too

One Liners & Q&A

  • A person who smiles in the face of adversity...probably has a scapegoat.

  • If you can stay calm, while all around you is chaos...then you probably haven't completely understood the situation.

  • Never put off until tomorrow what you can avoid altogether.

  • TEAMWORK...means never having to take all the blame yourself.

  • Never underestimate the power of very stupid people in large groups.

  • INDECISION is the key to FLEXIBILITY.

WHY DO MEN BECOME SMARTER DURING SEX?

WHY DOES IT TAKE 1 MILLION SPERM TO FERTILIZE ONE EGG?

Love & Hate

love this ad as I can't decide whether to take up the 10 km or 21 km at the year end Sg Run. Or maybe don't run at all ...

haiz on one hand, if I do take the 20km, I feel that it will be able to help out with that bulge in the mid section but then again .... I'm just too unmotivated to do it ...

The Dark Knight Trailer - Kids version

pretty cool ... check it out

Make Love on the Floor!

Was cooking in the kitchen when Andrew came along and played with a tub of water at the sink (thinking back, I think he is mimicking me cooking instant noodle).

Grandma came along and to watch over him and this little guy asked Grandma for some salt ... which he poured into the tub of water and stir to his heart content, asking for some more salt as he stirred passionately

then Grandma told me while I am pouring my instant noodle water away that she thought Andrew asked her to Somersault (Some More Salt) and she wonder how is she going to do that in that small tub (ya they loved him so much that they will do anything he ask for)

Later on ... Grandma shared with me that recently she heard something truly disturbing from Andrew Mouth ... at this young age, he is forced to memorise and recite some poem (that not the scary bit ... it's coming soon in the next paragraph)

She heard Andrew reciting "Daddy cooking in the kitchen ... blab blab blab ... Make Love on the floor!"

for weeks ! yeah 2 weeks .... she wonder why is Andrew reciting such pornography material ... (no Da Jiu didn't share any private collection with him yet) ... it was until Andrew Mom asked Grandma to help out with Andrew Home Education and passed her the book that contain the poem that Andrew had been reciting and realized it was actually

now dear readers ... can you guess what was Andrew actually saying?

Scroll over here "Meatloaf on the Floor" till here to find out !

: )

the Dark Knight reign supreme , nuff said

Christopher Nolan nails it again with the Dark Knight. Christian Bale's Batman, Heath Ledger's Joker, Aaron Eckhart's Harvey Dent & Gary Oldman's Gordon all added an unique dimension to their character. The rest of the cast were great too and this is by far the most compelling, tragic and absorbing film about Batman ever. It felt that TDK packed with too much at first and had to fast forward thru too many events but when it hit the mid section, everything just gel and was pure gold from then on.

definitely required second viewing soon

Korean Cd / Dvd s Hunt List

Dear Mr Kong,

Hope you are having a good time in Japan / Korea ... here are some Cd / Dvds for you to check it out if you happen to come across any Dvd/Cd shops in Korea ...

The Good The Bad and The Weird Soundtrack

Review
One of the most anticipated Korean Movie of 2008. Although I have yet to watch this movie, the soundtracks from the trailers had been an earworm since day 1. I also love the director's previous film A Bittersweet Life and it's soundtrack so I am betting that it's going to be just as geat.

Cost about $18 to $20 Sing Dollars
Rating: 4 Stars

Le Grand Chef Limited Edition

Review
This movie made me go teary up and laugh until peng. Kinda regret not going for the actor press conference in Singapore and missing this movie when it was out in Cinema cos it made me missed the chance of buying this "special" limited edition which come with bamboo tray (that normally use for dim sum)

Cost about $60 to $80 Sing Dollars
Rating: 4.5 Stars

Rating: 3.5 Stars

Daisy Limited Edition

Review: The Pan Asian flick that got Andrew Lau, famous for Infernal Affair to cross over to Korea to work with 3 of the hottest stars in Korea. the End result was rather average flick but I heard that the limited edition which features the director cut and this cut with changes in editing made the whole film so much better, so i am quite interested to see how much better it became.

Rating: 3 Stars

R-Point Limited Edition

Review: Effective Army Horror flick which got some spooky scenes that those who been thru army forrest warfare would understand and relate to.

Prom night? more like a slumber party

Was invited to view Prom Night, a movie that almost didn't make it to our local cinema and was going straight to video ... anyway it was bad .. so bad that it actually gave slasher movie a bad name. The suspense were all gone right from the start when they reveal who the killer and his motive.

anyway I went to imdb and was reading the "250 Things We Learned From 'Prom Night'" topic and some were spot on !

Might contain spoiler stuff so roll over to read ....

1. When your mom is being violently stabbed, hide under a bed and just stare at her.

4. If you want to escape from a maximum security prison... just go through the vents.

5. A shawl is more important than your life.

11. Don't ruin Prom night just because your psycho ex-teacher's come back for you.

13. If you have a nightmare, when you wake up, go back and do the EXACT same thing.

15. ALWAYS cover your mouth when your hiding from a killer.

20. 18 year old look like there in their 30s.

23. Being Prom Queen is the most important thing in life.

27. When the fire alarm goes off your friends wont evacuate until you go and get them.

28. Take the target of the deranged serial killer home and not to any number of safe locations including the police station.

30. A few knife wounds to the abdomen will instantly kill you, but you will only lose a few teaspoons of blood.

32. When you kill the maid, leave her cart in the hallway; it won't draw any unwanted attention.

33. When searching for a criminal in a building, evacuate everyone in the building. A building with no one in it yields significantly better search results.

36. Once you realize your best friends murdering stalker has returned, immediately run back to the dance without telling anyone first, hoping he wont find and/or kill you along the way.

41. Don't go upstairs to have sexy time when you're about to be announced prom queen.

43. When you are a cop and know a killer is after a girl stay parked outside in a police car not knowing whats going on in the house

44. When a detective knows a obsessed stalker has escaped from jail and he is after a girl, don't warn her just watch her dance with all her friends.

45. When your black go with a black person to the dance if your white go with a white person

46. If you truly love someone, kill everyone in their family AND their friends. I'm sure they'll want to be with you afterwords.

81. Although only a few feet away, officers will NOT hear you screaming from inside your bedroom as the killer beats you until the LAST minute.

82. Instead of sending an entire team of people to protect the target victim, ask for one scrawny guy to sit outside her house to make sure her light stays on...

121. People completely unrelated to the prom actually take the time to make banners and stand on the sidewalk to wave to the limo parade.

122. Whenever a guy tells his girlfriend NOT to follow him to college, she takes it as a compliment.

145. Always kill the target's boyfriend in bed then hide in the closet for no reason what-so-ever

165. When you slit a guys throat and then stuff him in a vent, blood will drip down indicating a bloodied body is near but when you actually pull the body out he's clean as a whistle.

Yup ... it's a stinker ... Avoid

007 got me excited again

Never ever would I expect to find myself so excited by the James Bond franchise but this reboot had done something to energise this franchise. There's something raw yet smooth (vulnerable yet almost invincible) feel to this new series and the direct continuation from the previous movie made it more intriguing to find out more about the James Bond adventures ...

and the movie title ... sound so scientific yet so poetic ... I think I'm already positively biased to Quantum of Solace liao

Check out the The trailer here

Man Made Wonder or something else?

Every time I catch the documentary Man Made Wonder : Okinawa Aquarium on Discovery Channel, I had mixed feeling about it.

When it talks about the Aquarium was built, it always kept me in awe ... how the tanks were built, right up to how the thick glass tank was made, how big the tanks are, how they recreate the environment for the fishes, the design and so on (even till how it will fare against earthquakes)

Heck ... it even got me rather interested in visiting this Aquarium if I am ever at Okinawa.

But then again, watching the three whale sharks in a tank got me thinking ... if I am a whale, I will be wondering "What have I done to deserve this? this life time jail sentence without the chance of parole"

I'm sure if you had watched Finding Nemo, you will know what I am talking about.

Yes, the tank that house the whale shark look huge to us but for a creature so huge, it will be like being trap in your house. Can you imagine, day in day out, living in that small container?

The show keeps lapping on praises on the various makers of this Aquarium and I wonder how would they like it if they are made to stay in the Aquarium that they built for one year ... no wait, ten years ... no wait ... how about rest of their lives? Would they still be so proud of their work?

Animals don't do that to other animals .... and I wonder if it's Man Made Wonder or Man Made Atrocities

HP PC service part 2

The repair man came after my "attempt" to complain with the call center supervisor that it took so bloody long for the technician to call me back after I log in my Pc problem ... and rather quickly as I was told that I might had to wait for another few more working days

anyway, he came, changed my motherboard and guess what ... my PC still refused to power up. He then took out his hp and spoke to someone to arrange another visit. It turned out it wasn't the motherboard problem and was the power supply that's faulty.

He claimed that the call operator only arranged for him to draw out motherboard to fix my problem and he wasn't able to draw out other parts even though he is well versed with the other two possible problems that my PC might be suffering from.

I told him to feedback to the call side and his explanation was that it was different company so he can't do that. But it doesn't make a lot of sense right? If the call center keep making such wrong diagnosis and do not allowed the technician to bring all the possible parts, it's like sending the technician to get a scolding from the customers when thing don't get fix like today.

I guess he run out of answers and I didn't want to attack him anymore as eventually, I still need him or his colleagues to fix my computer.

But it's so inefficient that I just got to rant about it.

Hellboy 2 rocks

Not as eventful as the Dark Knight but this comic book based movie scores high points in my book with it's character driven theme. Loved the mix mesh with religion, spooky and mythical creatures while touching on certain prevalent issues that happening in our world. A combination that only Guillermo del Toro and Mike Mignola could bring onto screen.

4 stars

prominent back speaker usage 01 Hellboy 2

Movie with clear usage of back speakers reminder for testing my back speakers

Hellboy 2 - at the hanger, just when Hellboy and gang board saw the planes that they were going to use, the propeller of a plane could be clearly heard on the left back speaker

HP service

after a delay in the morning, I finally got to called HP for my computer problems ... there are a couple of things that irked me

1) after logging in the problem, the technician will take 24 working hours to call me back

2) after when the technician do call me, they will take another 1 to 3 working days before actually coming down to fix my computer

3) even tho I paid for the extended warranty, the phone operator hinted that I might have to bear the extra cost if there are any ....

I don't understand why does it need to take so long for them to get back. Are there a lot of people with faulty HP products or they don't have enough technicians around. Or maybe my free computer is free and although I did pay for that extended warranty, my problem isn't that important to them?

my computer really chose a great time to break down, on the weekend and just right when they close for the day. Then now the 4 working days wait

the Woes of Not Backing up

the worst had happened and the most scary bit is that I don't know how bad is the problem until monday !

my pc refuse to be turn on ... after weeks of noisier than usual fan noise and warnings from my friend, the pc finally went kaput ... no matter how i press the on button, it doesn't bulge

haiz my fren told me that it's still savable as it's the graphic card's fan that's gone ... my precious files will be retrievable

but I won't know the extend of my pc crash ... until monday cos the pc chose to go down right after the computer manufacturer HP close for the weekend !!! haiz it means I gotto stayed worried over the weekend !!!

argh ... why didn't I back up those important files last night ???

Not out to Pollute ...

Was speaking with a ex gf about the seedy side of life and she mention that I was first one to pollute her ... something which i clarify with her train of thoughts and I thought my reply was bloody wicked : )

"I didn't pollute you, I pollinate"

Holy Bat Toys

Yeah ... the Bat Fad is coming soon ... and while shopping at a nearby supermarket, I found that the cereal box are packing toys from the Dark Knight.... Although not as nice as the Iron man Toy that I gotten, I just couldn't pass the Joker up

Potential Spoiler below ... read at ur own risk

Looking at the back of the Box, I saw this guy wearing suit and had a hood over his head ... initially I thought it was Mr Dent with a Hood to cover his secret up but looking at the character title, I was kinda surprise to find that it's actually Scarecrow

Kinda Outdated right ?? to be included in the Dark Knight range of toys? but speaking to Stefan, it turned out that it could be that ...

Scarecrow might be in The Dark Knight too !!! there are rumours about it and some folks got pictures of it somewhere online .... if that's true, then it will at least make sense to include the Scarecrow

don't know why, I want to keep away from all news from The Dark Knight after the spoilish new trailer but this discover kinda got me all excited !

oh and it's cheaper .. only $5+ compared to the Ironman toy that cost $8+

Almost got hit by ...

At the same traffic light crossing which I saw someone almost got knock down by a taxi, I myself had another close shave ...

this time, after I jaywalk, I saw a bunch of office workers waiting to cross ... then heard and saw a bird flying off the tree above me ... then as I was close by one of this office workers, I noticed that this guy's forehead, look like it had a bad skin problem ...

then I saw him taking a tissue and actually wipe bits of the "bad skin" away .... and I realized he been shitted on !

Phew ... could have been me ....
