Cantonese Profanity : PoKai

仆 街 (puk gai / pokai) : literally means "falling onto street", which is a common curse phrase in Cantonese that may be translated into English as "drop dead". It is sometimes used as a noun to refer to an annoying person that roughly means a "prick". The phrase can also be used in daily life under a variety of situations to express annoyance, disgrace or other emotions.

My Adorable Syrian Hamsters

After helping my relatives look after their hamster while they went for overseas holiday, it renewed my interest in having one of my own. I had a hamster many years ago and his sudden death left me rather sad and unwilling to keep another one. But with the help of online hamster forums and careful consideration, I decided to have hamsters back in my life again.

My girlfriend got me my first hamster from House of Chinchilla on 2th Feb 2013. I was told that he is born on 25th of December 2012. I like his eye rings and he is rather tame (as compared to other hamsters who are biting their cage like they are trying to prison break (which I can understand as they were house in a terrible small cage)). He did jump of my hand when I try to handle him but I was assured that he (and most Syrian Hamsters) will be more docile as they grow older.

Lung Wa Hotel (Budget Stay in Kowloon Hong Kong)

Another budget hotel with small room and this is one of the better ones that I had in Hong Kong. It's really an apartment with 4 rooms (but with room number going up to 5 and missing a room number 4 - typical Chinese superstition) and a small reception area beside the door. It's not really a hotel but for a budget stay, Lung Wa Hotel was more than satisfactory and here's why.

First of all, the location! Facing Nathan Road, it's super close to Ladies Street and one of their subway (Yau Ma Tei MTR) exit is just a stone throw away. Temple Street is just a bit further and opposite direction of Ladies Street. It's also near The Cityview hotel and you can make use of the Free Airport Express shuttle K5 (from the Kowloon Station) that goes there every 20 mins. Accessibility is definitely a plus point here.

My first batch of snow skin mooncake

Love Snowskin mooncake n been wanting to make them. This year ifinally did it. follow online recipe plus try and error ...

I had problem with sticky snow skin at one point and was ready to throw them away ... then I went back to read the recipe and realized I need to use a lot of flour to prevent it from sticking :) ....

anyway the sticky snow skin was quite yummy ... was busy eating them while trying to figure out how to make it unsticky

Look how uneven they are. The first one was a failure n I end up mixing the paste n skin together. That why the lotus paste appears on top.

The second one had too much skin n it spill over the base. But as I go on ... it became better ... until the 6th one which I finally dare to try the big mould.

Left them to chill in the fridge ... still haven't try them yet .... hope the end result taste as good as the sticky skin

Remaining Flights to MT Fuji Booked

Booked my remaining flight from SG to KL (10th Jul 2012) and KL to SG (20th Jul 2012).

Total Damage = $29.38 + $54 (inc Tax n Baggage) = $83.88

INCL Flight from KL to TYO n TYO to KL = 306.20

Total Flight COST = $389.58

Thanks to this Free Seats Promo, the total cost for the entire flight from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur to Tokyo and back is about 10 bucks cheaper than my estimation.

Mt Fuji & Tokyo - 10 Jul 2012 to 19 Jul 2012

Just took the first step to climb Mt Fuji in 2012. Booked the return Airasia flight from KL to Tokyo for $303. Step 2 would be getting the return flight from SG to KL. Step 3 & 4 Learn Japanese conversation daily and start training for mountain climbing.
Targeting the climb either on Thur 12 Jul 2012 to Friday 13 Jul 2012 or any day within Mon 16 Jul 2012 to Wed 18 Jul 2012. A rest day for Thur 19 Jul and prepare for the journey back at 11pm.
Likely to reach Tokyo Haneda Airport at 2230hrs. Instead of rushing to check in at a hotel / hostel, I would probably try to stay in a capsule hotel or a manga cafe near Tsukiji. Afterwhich, wake up early to visit the fish market at Tsukiji for sushi breakfast. Then check out and make my way to the hotel that I booked.
Would also like to visit Shibuya Station for the very first time. Hopefully I can locate Hachikō bronze statue. Perhaps I would visit the National Science Museum of Japan to see the real Hachikō .
Last but not least, I would really like to visit the Sumo wrestling training and the Earthquake simulator in Tokyo. Didn't get to do that at the last trip in 2009 so hopefully, this time round, I would finally be able to accomplish that.

Victor's Kitchen @ Sunshine Plaza - Updates with New Dishes

Two new dishes from Victor's Kitchen that stole my heart.

< Panfried Waterchest Nut Cake. It's not exactly a new dish. It's been available since May but I haven't been updating my blog.

Love the crispy exterior and the sweet taste of Waterchest nut inside. This is one dish that balance the sweetness well. Quite a refreshing change of taste when you have your fill of dim sim there.

from what I know, this dish is only available during the weekend, starting from Friday.  Might be available on other days like Monday but call to check.

Next dish that I tried today

                           Golden Egg Yolk Lava Bun>

a dish that I been looking for a long time. a bun that is filled with salted egg sauce in a bun. I tried it in a KL dim sum restaurant and their version is a deep fried bun with the savory salted egg yolk in it. Although Victor's Kitchen version comes in a steam bun format, the watery yolk in it was way better than the one I had in KL. Sweet & savory yolk that gush out when you take a bite. Beware, I dripped this salted egg sauce all over my phone when I took my first bite.

these two dishes are currently my favorites and can't wait to bring my frens over to try.
