Even when I am Winning
... I didn't really win any Money : )
After visiting John place, I went over to my Aunt's place to catch up with the remaining relatives and see the MJ games that's still going on ...
My Mom didn't have a good game so gave up for me to take over ... which I didn't really want to but since there only a few games left so sat down and play
from mid of TonG Feng to mid of Nian Feng, I actually game 4 Tai game twice! ... winning a total of about $15 bucks. But there was too much lost in my Mom's tray that I didn't get any money from my Victory .... : )

the Dangling Carrot
was supposed to run this morning but procrastinated until it was too late to do it ... and was already booked for the evening so the evening option was out ...
then I came across this article @ Yahoo! on how to stay motivated for exercise and one of the suggestion is that for every time you actually workout, put a little amount of money aside to buy something that you want (Not Need).
Recalling what Ben Tan (that famous Singapore Sailor) shared with me during the recent Reunion Dinner about how his wife and him learnt to ski (cost abt $200 +) in Singapore Snow City and took an overseas skiing package with the coach , enabling them to enjoy overseas skiing better (instead of wasting money to learn overseas), I thought it was a good idea to incorporate both ideas together.
Yup, I am going to put A dollar into a Piggy bank for every jogging or swimming session that I could get out of bed for. Not sure if it's going to be more motivating than training for a 10K jog or treating myself to certain sports such as rock climbing after reaching a certain level of weight loss but theoretically, I am psych to try it out... it Might take a long time to reach that eventual Snow Skiing trip but should be satisfying to see the dollars pile up in the bank

The Curious Case of the Red Eggs Thief and How to Medically Predict the Gender of the Two Month Old Fetus
There so much to learn from my Mom ... the stories she tells are really as entertaining as the next Hollywood Picture. This time round ... it stuff about pregnancy and someone in my family is pregnant again. Cannot be named cos it is still in a very early and crucial stage (they don't want to jinx it).
Brace yourself cos this are the wildest far fetched stuff about pregnancy that I had heard.
How to get pregnant ? (Beside sex that is) ... it turn out that you could get your elderly (Preferably those Aunty or Mom type) relative to steal a pair of Red Eggs and put them secretly in your fridge for you.
That's what happen to my Aunt and She Who can't be Named. And that Elderly person is of cos none other than my Mom.
Many years ago, My late Grandpa asked my Mom to help my Aunt steal a couple of red eggs and put in my Aunt's fridge. My Aunt wasn't that "happy" to find the eggs after a few days but within a few months time ... she was pregnant! (hahaha if there are any cousin reading this post right now, feel free to msg me to ask if you are the one).
Fast Forward to this year, My Cousin Dylan's first born son had his ManYue recently and where there are Red Eggs, there will be this Red Eggs Thief in action. She did the same act (and even for me which I wonder how is this magical act going to impregnate a single man) and wah la ! there might be a Cow Baby coming in 09 09 09 (even the dates also so nice).
Amazing and could be true.
Next up would be how to accurately guess the gender of the Fetus within 2 months of conception.
Nowadays, the doctor could calculate the date of conception with the growth of Fetus. Then if the couple take note of their sexual intercourse frequency (which I wonder who actually take note of that), they could gauge which type of sperm made it into the egg.
As those who had learned Bio during school days, it turned out that there are two type of sperms ... the XY and XX chromosomes (fyi: XY = Male Baby, XX = Female Baby). What you might not know is that ... The XY sperms are fast and furious type ... they tend to rush into battle faster than their XX counterpart. But with that urgency, it also meant that the XY has very short life expectancy.
the XX on the other hand, takes a long time to reach the conception arena but can live longer (say a couple of days) than XY. Now with that knowledge, one need to know when will theRing Egg fall into place. If it's after the the life expectancy of XY, then it's likely to be a girl girl.
Let's see if theory work or not .... come back in Sept to see if it's correct or not ... so If you want to "genetically chose" the gender of your next spawn, you got to time the sexual intercourse with the arrival of the Egg.

Just as I suspected

Happy Niu Year
I was wondering why didn't Moove Media took their cows out onto the greeny patch of streets since it's going to be the Cow Year. Just before the day is over ... I found them hanging around Orchard Rd. Felt kinda late but then it's better late than never. : )
Since it's the Cow Years, I was wondering why is Mac having Beef Burgers as theirgimmick prosperity burger promo for the CNY. Just imagine, if the Cow "Brothers" are here to visit during the CNY period, won't they be slightly more than unhappy to see that they are marketed as the special set meal ???
Me ... I am going to stay away from Beef for the whole CNY period and will wear underwear with Cow's Logo on it ... so that they could identify me as a friendly instead of foe : ) some Cow-ism to share : )

so I made Salted Egg Crabs
I could never understand the reason for people wanting to eat crabs ... there so little meat and so many hard shells to crack. It was until that day when I had Salted Egg Crabs and I understood why it's worthwhile to crack, suck and dig for crab meat ... the salted egg sauce combo with crab meat (and shell) is simply heavenly.
I been wanting to try to try to do a crabs dish and today happened to be the day where my folks and I head down to Tiong Baru wet market to chop prawns for the Reunion Lunch Pot Luck. Yes I'm making Wasabi Prawns again.
so Two Birds with One Stone ...
First of all, I didn't realize Salted Eggs come in Black .... I even asked the Ah Ma serving me if she got the right ones cos there are some brown ones by the side ... it turned out that the brown ones are Century Eggs (kinda Ironic isn't it?)
And the Black ones are actually White Salted Eggs
I was even more surprised that the Salted Eggs were still in liquid form ... not the harden ones we get when we buy porridge ... it's just like normal eggs except the egg yolks are a bit more harden ... I wonder what's inside the Century Eggs.
anyway ... had to steam the Salted Egg Yolks first. Then start work on the Crabs!!
My Friend asked ... so who washed the Crabs? Was it my Mom?
Anyway, it wasn't ... it was the Crabs seller ... had to ask him to kill & wash the Crabs for us as we really don't know how to. I used to stop my Grandma from killing and cleaning the crabs until I had to be locked in a toilet with my parents holding the doors. Now I regret not learning how to do it.
But it's still a rather cruel sight to see how the crabs are being dismantled ... Haiz ... I wonder if I will ever be able to do it. Anyway I told the Crab Seller that I was going to make Salted Egg Crabs and he just shaked his head and ask me "nice meh?" ... He must be thinking this punk is goign to waste his crabs
anyway, I coated the crabs with Corn Flour ... at that point, my Dad came in and mention that I should have added Egg White to make the flour stick to the crabs. It was too late and the recipe didn't state that so I quietly ignore him.
After which, pour them into hot oil for some deep frying session.
This is the tricky bit ... I wasn't sure how long should I fry the crabs. I been told that I shouldn't cook too long as they are easily cook. However at this point, my Dad came in and mention that the shells had not been cracked and it might not get cook that easily ...
as again, the recipe didn't mention anything about cracking the crabs shell and it was way too late to do anything ... so I quietly ignored him again ...
Had to rely on my "cooking sense" and agar agar (estimate) the frying. Overall, it went quite well until one of the Claws screamed during the frying!
I kid you not!
It was like those horror movie where what you thought was dead wasn't! the Claw kept screaming and screaming ... I was so tempted to tell it that "if you keep screaming, I am not going to pick you up from the boiling hot oil" but I wise up and suspect that there must be a space inside the Claw and it might be leaking air out so therefore it was screaming ...
there there .. don't be afraid to fry Crabs after listening to my experience.
My assumption was more or less proven correct when one of the later crab claw actually exploded. Yeah Exploded! Lucky it shot at the wall instead of me ... or I would really freak out. Think Revenge of the Undead Crabs !!
After the Crabs had been cooked, drain and dry the excess oils from them ... while moving on to frying the Salted Egg Sauce
Minced the Steamed Salted Eggs ... fry the minced garlic and add in the salted Egg. Once they blend together and emit a nice food smell. It's time to add those crabs and the seasoning in.
and Fry them together!
at that point, my Mom came in and said that my cooking style looked like a professional Chef. Even stated that if I leave my current job, I could try cooking as a career.
... cold joke aside, the frying was rather difficult as the crabs are still in large pieces ... which meant my Dad was right but as again, too late and maybe it might have been better mixing the salted egg with the seasoning first before adding the crabs (which the recipe didn't state it in that way)
The Finished Product!
Personally, I wasn't that impressed with the Salted Egg sauce. I didn't blend it that well and it wasn't as yummy or memorable as the first Salted Egg Crabs dish that I had.
But My Mom said it was good ... as good as the restaurant one (you know la, Moms tend to overstate things). She also mention that the crab meat was just nicely cooked and tasted pretty good ... which I agreed.
It was quite a new experience but now I am so tired and still have so many plates to wash !!! Not sure when will I ever do this again ... unless there are willing victims who dare to leave his or her name in the comments box.

Lobsters
This morning at Tiong Bahru, we were going to get Crabs but end up getting Lobsters too ... the only diff is that one will be staying over in the fish tank while the other is going onto the frying wok.
The seller told us that the one on the left is a male while the one on the right is a female. Using their claws to differentiate their sex. Andrew named them but after a few hours, these Lobster's had their name changed again and again until we can't keep track of what was their name a few minutes ago ... I am sure Andrew can't and most likely was making up names as he goes along.
Anyway Male Lobster and Female Lobster will do fine ...
oh and I loved the way they pinch back at those big bully parrot fishes that my Dad got for the tank ... really can't stand those bullies ... if I am not that compassionate, I would have throw them out of the tank ...

For Vengeance is endless
While Bowling, my Cousin, Aunt and Mom keep contacting me for MJ game ... actually I didn't want to play because there a lot of spring cleaning to do at home ... but my Cousin called and said she wanted revenge ... I just had to give in to her.
I did warn her that it might backfired on her ... however I was also expecting to not do that well as I was pretty tired from bowling ... yeah was almost like a one armed warrior on the MJ table
Anyway the results as you can see ... marks the fourth time in a row of MJ games that I self touch full house
First came a Centipede, the Pong Fa Cai ... and the Pong the Tongs for a Mixed Suit ... a Rat came along which made it Full House and I no longer need to Pong the Bai Ban to get a Full House so I unitized the 4,5,6,7 & 8 Tong to wait for the numerous way of winning ... finally self draw a 3 Tong and game a Man Fu
Total, I won abt 12 bucks ... thought could be used to pay for the bowling games in the morning but turn out that I was 2 bucks short (Bowling Game total was 14 bucks)

Sidetrack a bit: as I was scrambling around for victim to help us take this picture, I arrowed this lady who was using this big ass professional camera (should be from those major media). I assumed that she would be "expert enough" to take a good shot for us. When the picture came back to me ... I was kinda shock that she cut all our feet off ... with our knees still intact in the picture ... was rather shock to see such composition from someone holding such a professional camera.... or maybe she wasn't happy that I "used" her when she wanted to snap shots of Sandra Ng and Raymond Wong ....
Also with My Pro Active Partner's help, I managed to get signatures of Vincent Kok (who was surprise I got Double Tap for him .... not sure why but I hope I didn't get the wrong show for him to sign)

One House ate Three House

My Aunt noted to me that the previous day winning and today's winning had already exceeded 50 bucks ... I am kinda thinkin of switching job to become a professional fulltime MJ player liao : )

Ah Wang Shine On
Short Story Long ... the incident of this afternoon episode happened a few weeks ago.
My dear old old friend ZVS asked me for help in solving certain anagram at this CSC website. It was for a contest that had a couple PSP n Nintendo handheld console as top 3 prize. While I wasn't much of a help in solving it (even after using certain webbased program), I "helped" to verify that he got the right answer. The catch of this contest was that if there are more than 3 winners, the draw will happen at the CSC lobby and the winners must be there in person to collect the winnings or they will pick the next winner.
So ZVS and I arranged to meet up on that draw date (which is today) to bowl while waiting for the draw (see if we are so lucky or not). Then an email came and notify us that there are more than 3 correct entries so we got to go down in person. But alas, there weren't any lanes available on that day. Either got too many ppl with the same idea or it's booked for competition ... which I am not sure what it was.
Anyway ZVS, being the kind soul helped me get a 1GB ram for my slow slow PC and since he wanted to go for this draw, I thought of meeting him there. A couple of times, he wanted to drop by my place but somehow it never happened, so in the end, we met at the CSC for the RAM.
This morning ... I wanted to wear a Tee Shirt n Berms there but a funny thought came to my mind and that's "Better Dress Up, In case win something". Plus I need to send stuff after this even, so I wore my working polo T n Jeans, gel my hair so won't look so unkempt. Then I even msg my mom, tell her I will be back in the afternoon to deliver stuff, after I collect "something". As again, when I wrote "something", PSP flash past my mind and I was pretty amused with my own thoughts.
Reaching the CSC lobby, it was crowded with many many old folks ... they had a car draw before the PSp draw. After a few unclaimed winners, the lady who stood beside (and suddenly disappeared to the front) suddenly put up her hand as the first female winner was announced. I thought that's pretty lucky of her ... and thought of moving nearer to the stage as the crowd disperse after the car winner was announced.
The first two winners were old ladies ... there are some winners around my age or as young as being born in the 90s but they remained unclaimed. Then it was the first Prize Draw! ... at that point, I actually wanted to leave as I felt stupid standing there in anticipation while ZVS and family members were sitting at a cafe at the back and all the winners turned out to be aunties (whom I don't think they would even play the PSP)
Then when the big shot inserted his hand into the bowl (containing the lucky draws), I had another ESP flash ... and when the MC said the name of the 1st prize winner is (in the Same Slow and Pause a While manner)

LI (Me Thinking: "HALF WAY THERE ... JUST 1 More")
HIN (Me Thinking: "HOLY PSP !!!")
I was as elated as the above picture !!! hahah the MC even asked if I am Richard which sort of confirm any doubts that I got ! haha so brimming with joy .... shook hands with Mr Big Shot whom commented it was "worth the wait huh"
Funny thing was that no one took pics of me during the prize giving moments but gotten dear old nice ZVS to take some for me later on ...
hahaha so happy .... Feeling Very Wang now !! Must treat ZVS to a good meal! I will Make Salted Egg Crabs for him to eat ! hahaha

The Luck Continues
not exactly 自摸满胡 ( Zi Mo Man Hu) x 2 but close ... it's Man Hu 满胡 x 2 (once Zi Mo自摸)at my Aunt place : )
Since My Cousin didn't get to play Mahjong with me the last time round, she ask my Aunt to organise one session with her friend. I took time off to keep them "accompany" and end up slaughtering them ... hahaha
Gotten 2 Flowers which aren't mine ... then I managed to Gong the North Wind (1 Tai & 40 cents from each player). Afterwhich, I gotten the most of the Dong Zi ... but before I gotten the winning tile, I drew a Cat (1 Tai) and right after getting that, the next tile was the winning tile and that result with extra Tai (call Flower Up). Plus the Mix Suit (which is 2 Tai), there a total of 5 Tai and it's self drawn : ) hahahaha I hope I don't make the girls cry
The next Man Hu 满胡, I gotten a Hen (1 Tai) first. Follow by a Fai Cai Gong (1 Tai plus 40 cents per pax). After which, it's a Mix Suit (2 Tai) and my dear cousin threw a North Wind Tile (1 more Tai) for me to game . Tho it wasn't self drawn ... it's still a 5 Tai : )
Later on, my Cousin's mom came along .... She is a very fast player with mental math calculation that really beyond My Aunt, My Cousin and Mine ability ... plus a bit tired from one very slow round, so couldn't perform as well as the previous round and end up losing abt 2 bucks : ) Not too bad cos consider I "technically" won 33+bucks from the previous round (technically cos got to divide by two for the sake of the junior players)

It's so hard to shop in DVD/ CD Retail shop
Disclaimer: I might sound a bit ungrateful here but that's not my intention ...
One of my Birthday Gifts was this voucher for a local Dvd/Cd retail store and I haven't had the time or chance to visit the store to check out what I could redeem for myself.
Finally, today I went down to one of the stores along the Orchard Rd stretch and I realized how difficult it was to get something from a Dvd/Cd retail store. These are the few things that went into my mind when I was shopping "frantically" and "desperately" (tho the voucher expire mid to late this year).
1) I don't buy Code 3 dvds made in SG (Unless it's a local movie).
2) I find it hard to buy Code 1 Dvds from there cos 1) I know how much cheaper I could get from the online seller, 2) this shop tends to "fake" Code 1 Dvds with Canadian Dvds instead of US Dvds (Nothing wrong except there are French wordings on the cover)
3) I haven't buy a Cd for a long time (I blame Mp3)
4) Most of the Cds that I am even remotely interested are actually printed in SG or Malaysia! (ya the country which censored James Album Cover becos it featured a Pig on the cover) More reason for point number 3
5) Was tempted to get a headphone for jogging but then again, I am sure I can get it cheaper online.
6) The Sale items are in a mess ... not sort according to genre, singer or what so ever .... so unless you got the time to go thru the CDS
7) I can't help but feel that this shop which offers second hands Cds/Dvds (aka buying from customers in rock bottom price) might be reselling second hands stuff as first hand stuff.
8) Even after discounting from a Member card, it's still more expensive than Online sellers!!!
Yeah ... just didn't realize it was that hard to shop ... but thankfully, I managed to get one item using those vouchers (thanks to those who share the vouchers) and I really like the item (which is still more ex than online sellers).

自摸满胡 ( Zi Mo Man Hu) x 2
It's been a long time since I had an entry for Mahjong and today's awesome game (at my Aunt's housewarming) definitely needs a yaya session on journalite.
First came a Mouse (+ 1 Tai) ... then pong 2 Bamboo ... then I kept drawing 5th Bamboo and 4th bamboo that had to gong both of them : ) (collected $1.20 x 2 just with both of the gong). My lucky streak just kept going with a Rooster (+ 1 Tai) and then a Cat (+ 1 Tai)(which incur another $1.20 from all the other players as Cat catches the Mouse). If it wasn't enough ... while touching the Cat's flowery tile, I gotten the North Wind Tile (which add + another Tai to it!). The North Wind threesome tiles happened to be my wind (+ 1 Tai).
The Second Full Game is less spectacular. First I draw flowers that don't belong to me But some how, the Wan Zi keep coming to me and I managed to Pong them all with Fai Cai! ...The Half Colour (+ 2 Tai) and the Pong Pong (+ 2 Tai) already almost cap it to the brink. Thanks to the Centipede (+ 1 Tai) that came into the game late .... it went to the Max and it was 5 Tai when I drew the winning tile (5th Wan) on my own ... : ) again ... Full payment from everyone !!!
Even my Grandma mention that my Mahjong Skill improved : ) hahaha I would like to thank Viwawa and all the trainings it provided me

The Total would be 9 Tai! ... YUm YUM Somemore I self draw the winning tile (which is the North Wind tile) and that means everyone have to paid the max amount : ) hehehe
