Songs from the Fat Man Movie

Starting from this year, the Recent Japanese films that's making it to our shores have been sweeping me off my feet. It got started from Oscar winning Departures おくりびと and it was followed closely by the brainy Suspect X 容疑者Xの献身. The upcoming School Days with a Pig ブタがいた教室 and Handsome Suit ハンサム★スーツ had also mesmerise me in their very own sweet ways!

But this post is about the songs from the Fat man Movie and Handsome Suit was as expected, formulaic and generic but it's making me laugh out loud and endear itself to me in ways that I couldn't expect. There are two songs that got stuck in my ears and they are

Misato Watanabe 渡辺美里 - My Revolution

The theme song for this comedy ... does what Journey's Separate Ways did for Yes Man. Like what the song could be suggesting (not exactly sure cos there only a couple of English words in this song), the revolution starts with oneself : ) ... oh and I believe the original singer of this song, Misato Watanabe cameo a couple of times in this movie... rather funny stuff

Like Separate Ways, My Revolution is going to be my Ringtones for a while : ) (that is if I can find the mp3 for this song)

Toshinobu Kubota 久保田利伸 - LA-LA-LA LOVE SONG

Now this tune shouldn't be that unfamiliar ... it was the theme song for that popular Japanese television drama Long Vacation (starring that certain Ryoko Hirosue who is so alluring in Departures too). The manner that this tune was used in this comedy was a fine example of innovation and timing for the most unexpected comedic effect. Excellent stuff : )

Watching Movie could be stressful

Was playing Wong Kar Wai's Chungking Express in the living room when my folks were around. When they came back, they didn't seem to want to use the TV so I let the movie play on and they sat in the living room ... after a while, my Mom said this to me.

"Watching your Movies(dvds)are like taking an exam ... so difficult one."

: ) To make it easier for her, I changed the dvd to Johnnie To's Breaking News ... more action pack and easier to understand.... But ended up explaining to her about the ending montage

getting in contact with the past

back in the early days of my Uni Life, I came across 李雨寰's Techino Love album. Not sure how I managed to get to listen to his songs as I don't usually listen to Chinese songs but there's 2 tracks (Techno Love and 不要愛我)inside this album that became somewhat my anthem for my early part of my Uni Life ...

Plus the album's packaging look darn cool ... a plastic slipcase and a velvety black case inside but it was too ex for me to get ... if i didn't remember it wrongly, it was about 30 ++. too costly for me to get since I only liked 2 tracks but the album left a memorable mark.

One of the funny thing that happened with this album was when I shared the song 不要愛我 with a girl that I was involved with. She scolded me for putting her in the mess and then send this song to her. I just thought it was a lovely song ... Not sure if she still remember that incident or not.

Fast Forward it to today ... I went Jalan Jalan with my friend after our Wagyu meal and at a 5 for $3 corner ... I saw something rather familiar and it turned out to be that 李雨寰's Techino Love album!!!!

Guess he didn't achieved fame after all!!! Wasn't expecting to find anything worth buying in this 5 for $3 section so coming across this album (only 2 copies left) gave me a rather unexpected surprise of the day.

Needless to say, I went to find other 4 more CDs to qualify for a $3 purchase. Bringing it home and giving it a spin brought back so much memories : )

abt that cream that I sell

I hope my friend will not be offended with this post ... I had a big laugh over her innocent "but slightly slanted" comment

It all got started with
Yesterday at 8:52pm Wxxxxe commented on her Facebook account that
Wxxxxe Wxxg will strive to be happier than before. Cos she deserve it.

then my other fren commented
Samantha Yeh at 10:22pm March 25 via Facebook Mobile
Yeah, happy is always better than angry. At least lesser wrinkles :p

then i added
Richard Lim Jr at 11:43pm March 25
if got wrinkles ... come look for me ... i got wrinkles cream : )

after a long while ... Winnie replied
Wxxxxe Wxxg at 8:21pm March 26
to richard: i din know u have a new sideline!!! Got license or not...or did u diy at home?

her comments got me laughing out loud ... becos

Richard Lim Jr at 8:50pm March 26
self note to Richard > Stop having notti thoughts about home made DIY Facial Cream ...

hahahahaha LOL .... her "innocent" reply was seen in a twisted and perverted angle by yours truly

* Updated - Name Censored to protect the Identify of the Innocent Person from Unnecessary Teasing and Publicity.

And just in case you got no idea what Homemade DIY Facial Cream that I am thinking of ... here is a picture attached to illustrate my "joke"

... yes it can get rather raunchy from this point on so divert your eyes or stop scrolling down anymore ... you been warned

So I bought the latest PSB album CD...

even when I wasn't particularly impressed with their latest offering after listening to the whole album (check out the sample page on the post below).

But as a "Hardcore Fan", I still went out to buy their latest Special Edition Cd "YES, ETC" that comes with a extra disc... containing remixes and other songs not included in the normal album.

The thing is that, nowadays CD package comes with Commentary and Making off too. Well not on the CD exactly but the Special CD "ETC" allows the consumer to unlock a special site on Pet Shop Boys' official website for those extra bits.

Dvd's got such cool features but I had never been that interested to actually go check out the extra features that could only be access on the net. But since there isn't much I could do with the CDs as I already heard them, I access for the extra features online for the first time.

Gotten some kinks in the way but it was easily solved (unlike the Firewire card that refuse to work with my PC).

Overall it's fairly interesting to listen to the Boys on what they have to say about their new album, what went on behind the scene and what the songs about. To a certain degree it helped to grow the songs on me (that and repeated listening)

I like to point out some tracks from "Yes" that I'm beginning to like more and more.

King of Rome
the first and still the strongest impression of this song is that it's very daytime dreamscape like ... it invokes the vision of lonely overdressed characters wandering alone in beautiful places like a palace, forest or even the desert.

It's slow in a plodding pace but very whimsical and I enjoyed it for the most part until the change in tune at the finale (which is basically the problem I have with most of the songs in this album .... doing awesome and a sudden change in tune/ tempo that felt awkward)

Pandemonium
The most chirpy “hands together” “clap clap” song for me. Was listening to this track on a Friday morning … was still in half-awake mode and this song got me clapping my hands over my head while I made my way to my destination. The tempo is strangely infectious (if I meet anyone, I would just pretend I am stretching .. hehe)

The Way it Used to Be
The regret-reconcile song … “what is left of love… tell me who will even care? So much time has pass, I still see you everywhere”

I don’t really understand “don’t sell me New York in the rain” but I like that line very much.

Legacy
A grand operatic band marching piece that had invokes a despotic feel to it. And the constant reminder that “you will get over it” does make sense … no matter what causing the unpleasantness or affecting one greatly… “you will get over it”

As again, I didn’t like the sudden change with the French lyrics section and the last bit about handphone seller and computer that’s a spy made very little sense to me.

forgive me for I can't remember how to forget

While doing research for a movie review ... I came across a youtube clip of Running on Karma. The clip focus on this one scene that shows Cecilla Cheung's character borrowing one minute of Andy Lau's character's time. In that scene, it played this song.

While I liked this movie a lot, this song didn't stand out until I heard it from this clip ... thankfully, there are people who posted the name of this song and the singer in Chinese characters

身外情 by 黄耀明

lovely song isn't it? I played this song over n over again on the tube ... wish there a way to get this song.

Koufu @ Orchard Cineleisure

There are two stalls in Koufu Orchard Cineplex that got me hooked with their food ... no more wondering what to eat when I watch movies at Orchard Cineplex or pay for the expensive fast food anymore

Mr & Mrs Fish Soup's Dumpling

I had their fried dumpling and wasn't really impressed with it ... then one night, after watching a movie, my friend order this dish (the plain boiled version) and shared it with me .... I was hooked! love the dumpling skin for not being too starchy (that can make one sick of eating it) ... the filling inside is equally perfect for me ... for me .. this is the perfect dumpling that I been looking for ... if the dumpling is a girl, I will marry her immediately ... : )

beside those perfect dumplings ... the pasta pretty good too

Pizza Pazza's Black Pepper SoftShell Crab Pasta

Anything with Soft Shell Crab would bound to catch my attention ... the Black Pepper was a deterring factor for a couple of sec but I decided to try and was hooked to the crispy Soft Shell Crab and the yummy pasta ... who would knew that the crab n pasta would go so well together ??? def good enough to give the pasta restaurant above a run for their money.

Beef Lasagna

After too many repeats of the Crab pasta, I tried their Beef Lasagna and was impressed with it too ... the sweet cheesy layer on top of the pasta ... yum ...

Go try this two stalls when you are there : )

Got a buck to spare?

Dear Friends who are reading my blog ... Do you have a buck to spare?

The reason that I am asking you for a buck is because I would like to take part in a 48 hours film project and the entry cost S$100. As you know, I am not very well to do but has a fiery passion for film making ...

Basically this sort of fly by night event help wannabe filmmakers like us to stop finding excuse to not do that film project that we been dreaming off (i.e Procrastination). Cos of the short time span and the schedule film dates (1st May for this event), it's either we die die finish something by that deadline or lugi that 100 bucks ...

so far we have not failed to meet the deadline (well we only been to one such event many many years ago but still, you can trust us! ).

Anyway, a bright spark came into my mind... At first, I wanted to target my lovely Aunts and Uncles or other form of relatives or loaded friends to sponsor me (and my group mates ... if I can find any) for this event... but Loki suggested that instead of finding 10 such people to sponsor S$10 each, why not 100 friends to fork out S$1 each ... it's equally feasible !!!

I thought it's a great idea ... don't discriminate those who want to help ... no matter small or big ... those who is willing to help, S$1 also can ! of cos ... the bigger ur donation, the bigger ur names will appear on the credit ... if you give a sum that we are so grateful for ... we will even put ur name as producer !

Think about it ... your name in a film ! : ) in the meantime, don't kick me away if I come to u and beg ask for sponsorship

Updated! Those who sponsor 10 bucks and above, will get a Dvd of our finish product free : )

Feel free to ask for my POSB / DBS Bank account number to transfer the money if u r not free to meet up with me : )

New Word II

Heard of this word before but never really knew or remember what's it meant ... until today my Uni flatmate used the word on me ... and a discussion on the word usage followed ... now it's stuck in my head ... can't wait to use this word soon

oxymoron : a figure of speech by which a locution produces an incongruous, seemingly self-contradictory effect, as in “cruel kindness” or “to make haste slowly.”

Victor's Kitchen @ Sunshine Plaza

My Fave Dim Sum joint in SG and since it's my Dad's birthday, I brought them to makan here... and here some of the stuff that we had ...

King Prawn Kar Gao

The first time I came into Victor's Kitchen, I was amused by the way they name their Har Gao ... but the prawn inside pretty big so the title of King Prawn didn't felt that inappropriate. One of my must order dish for dim sum and so far I haven't been let down in Victor's

Zar Leong

just added pic on 12 Mar 09

Another dish that is a must when I am having Dim Sum ... ever since my friend introduced me to this dish back in Perth, I would ask for it whenever I'm having Dim Sum ... basically it is Yu Tiao with Cheong Fun wrapped around it ... It's not served at all Dim Sum makan place so I am quite glad they have it here ... tho the standard had gone up n down before

Oyster Sauce Char Siew Bao

Sound like very premium Char Siew Bao isn't it ? haha well the good thing here is that it isn't priced like that... but the downside of this dish is that there's too much bao and too little sauce ..

Carrot Cake

Doesn't look like the carrot cake that you normally have right? Well the boss told me that this is Hong Kong style carrot cake ... and there a special dipping sauce which he is very proud to promote ... the thing is that the premium sauce is too spicy for me ...

Queen Siew Mai

With a dish called King Prawn Har Gao ... you need a Queen to accompany and what's better than the usual companion dish for Har Gao? the Siew Mai ... Nothing much to exclaim about except it's name

Quill Eggs Siew Mai
just added pix on 12 Mar
If I didn't remember it wrongly, the boss told me that he invented this dish to keep his kids happy... Don't recall seeing this elsewhere so give it a try when you are there ...

Custard Buns
Another signature dish from Victor's ... it's so good that even Andrew digs it ...

very yummy custard paste inside ... must try when you are there : )

HK Summer Tea
Not sure how is it different from the normal Sid Mud Milk Tea but I thought it was rather innovate to put the ice outside of the drink... in that way, the tea stays cool but not diluted as the ice melts into the tea

Double Boiled Almond Pudding

One of their signature dish / dessert in Victor's ... very soft, creamy n yummy ... the Almond flavour is pretty sweet so if you prefer something not that sweet, get the Double Boiled Ginger ... Got to wait a while for this cos I suspect they do the boiling only when you order ... not pre make ones ... one of the must try dish in Victor's

Just added: Fried Wanton

Another fave of mine ... the ultra crispy Wanton skin plus the sour sweet sauce ..
