Success! Wasabi Prawns

I once "taught" my ex maid how to make Wasabi Prawns from a Sunday Newspaper article and ever since then, she would make this dish when the family actually ate at home ... it got till a point that I felt it was once too often

anyway ... she left and this dish had been on my mind ... and ever since I was making that hamburger dish (at the previous post), I been toying with the idea to make this dish again. That is without the help of my dear ex maid ...

The first attempt was a failure ... never read about it ? cos i don't post things that failed ... the biggest problem with that first dish was the mayo sauce ... it turned out to be way too bitter and there isn't any wasabi taste to it ... and I suspect that the prawns ain't cook yet but my Mom reassure that they are

The main problem with the first failure was that I didn't follow the recipe and I was doing too many things at once (did a curry cheese burger and U can guess how that turned out).

So this time round, it was only this Wasabi Prawns (and bugogi beef but I m quite good with that already). Before the prawns even get peeled, I followed the online recipes to the T and discover what was missing from the previous attempt! it was the secret ingredient ! and when I discovered what it was that gave the sauce a 180 degree turned, I knew why my maid kept making this Wasabi Prawns ... it was quite easy and beside the mayo, the secret ingredient is the only other important ingredient that must be included in this special sauce ... yeah you can dump the wasabi powder away.

why throw the wasabi powder away? u might ask ... cos actually I still can't get that wasabi taste in this mayo sauce ... haha actually technically this Wasabi Prawns was a failure but the Mayo Prawns was a success ! but lets not be so strict with me

doesn't it make you drool ?? wanna get some ?? please queue up ... I already got 3 different request after reading my msn nick : )

this pen is not company one

We need to transfer money overseas and usually my Dad is the one doing the transfer ... the first step would be to fill up a form and there are plenty of stuff to fill up ... address, amount and bank account numbers

When we were about to head to the bank, I realized that the amount was incorrectly filled and had to change ... seeing my dad just wrote the first one, I told him I will rewrite the next one as there are quite a lot to fill up ...

then when I tired to take the pen he just used to fill the first form, he took it away and said "this pen is not company one"

I stared at him blankly and couldn't believe he just did that to me .. I turned and look at my Mom who was busy texting ... I tried to bring what had happen to her attention and her reply was "as least he told you nicely"

I drew a even bigger blank ... When she finally knew what had transpired ... she was laughing with me at my Dad stinginess

later he explained that a lot of his own personal pen got lost when the company borrowed it ... so no more lending ... I just can't believe the line must draw until like that

imagine listening to this while watching fireworks

back in the last summer of my uni days ... there was this fireworks display at a river near the city and the radio station was playing music to match the tempo of the fireworks. It was fast tempo all the way until the whole sky is darken with the fireworks dust.

then while waiting for the dust to clear, they fire a few fireworks that basically red dots in the sky ... and the red dots slowly fall back to earth

of cos the website name is mapmyrun.com

they help you measure the distance of the run and if you include the timing of the run, it will help you calculate the total calories burn and even the average pace of the run.

Pretty cool and easy to use.

Very motivating too! I actually covered more distance than my training schedule had plan out for me.

My Own Teriyaki Burger

Wanted to make bugogi beef with raw lettuce wrap but just as I was checking my fridge before heading out to supermarket, I realized I still got left over mince beef from the failed Pepper Lunch Curry Beef Hamburger attempt 2 days ago...

I always wanted to make Mos Teriyaki Beef Burger as it seems simple enough tho over priced at the fast food restaurant. I was only short of breadcrumbs n hamburger bun so decided to not waste food (tho some part of the mince beef had already turned black but overall it looked eatable) and tried my hand and creating the teriyaki burger.

it turned out to be quite good.

Toasted the bun with butter and it was crisply muncher. The beef was good too ... with breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, egg n milk ... it cook well and was relatively easy to make.

I learnt not to make the beef patty too large as when I tried to flip it, it just broke into pieces. The smaller patty had no problem. Didn't overdose on the teriyaki n mayo sauce too. So it didn't rob all the taste but still left it's presence there when I took a bite.

Overall, a happy experience ... now I want test subjects to try ! anyone dare ??

Cost Breakdown
Come to think of it, the burger is quite cheap to make ... I would say it cost abt 1.50 for one burger

beef patty cost abt 50 cents as one pack of mince beef cost abt 5 bucks n 10 patties can be made.
lettuce cost abt a few cents. 10 at most
garlic, onion, breadcrumbs, egg n milk cost abt 40 cents
buns cost less than 50 cents.
teriyaki n mayo sauce cost less than 40 cents.

imagine the profit that the company is making : ) plus they get the material at cost price and as they say it, the more processed the cheaper the food get ...

So I got my first pair of Jogging Shoes

The KamSiap (cheapo) Me had never really bought a pair of running shoes before ... I had always used what our dear National Service had provided and all along, I felt that it had served it's function (bear in mind that the intensity of my exercise after NS went down compared to my Sec / Poly Days).

Anyway, after that encounter with my cousin n my old schoolmate & my body parts (ankle n knee) gave me warning signs, I knew it's time to get a pair of proper shoes as I am racking up some serious Kilometers weekly. (serious to me but I know most other runners probably take it as a warm up distance). Getting old already, I don't want to injure myself anymore than I already had.

After doing some research, I narrowed the brand to Asics , they are branded as the runner's shoes. I assume that my feet belong to the flatfeet type (tho I am not entirely convinced that I run like a flat feet) and for that case, there were only a few model that I could choose ... Foundation, Evolution, GT 2130 & Kayano

In the end, I got this : )

The selection process was amusing and I guess it show how indecisive and easily sway type of person I am.

Initially, I wrote Foundation off as I felt that Evo was a better option since it gotten award during the recent trade show. Kayano was one of the shortlisted one as 1) my running buddy uses it n 2) won award too but was the most ex. Then's there the GT 2130 which I didn't do much research on but it won award again and laggi cheaper than Evo n Kayano.

In the end, I decided to go for EVo ... I guess my heart was with Evo all along and went to test try the shoes in the first shop that I went to ... but upon testing it, there something poking my inner heels, which was damn uncomfortable.

The old uncle that was serving me told me to try Foundation instead as Kayano is for those marathon runners and I need more cushion instead (meaning I'm fat) and I gave it a try. At that stage, I didn't even bothered to ask the price of Foundation around QueensTown SC, only checked for the other three.

When I tired it, Foundation felt very good. Nothing was too cramp around my feet and the heels felt comfortable too ... at that moment, I had that "it's the one" feeling.

Happily, I got it and was on my way home ... and so happy, I took out the box to see my new shoes again and too my horror ! I discover that there a rat inside the box ! nahhhhhhhhh just checking if you are still reading or not : )

it's Foundation 7 and the current mode had already reach Foundation 8 ! I gotten a generation older type of shoe ! haiz, felt so cheated! stupid! ... I think I got carried away by that moment ... I guess I can only console myself that hopefully it will function well as I want it to .

does it look like it's making face at you?

Now I know why they can find pictures of Mary on Glass Panel or walls ... I found a rather unhappy pancake starring back at me ... just before I ate it

Hold on to Your ...

I recently rediscover that my body can't break down alcohol as quickly as others. It was something that I learned back in Uni and I had totally forgotten it till last weekend when I attended this "little stand around and try to get a alcoholic drink" party. Thirsty and I thought we should rush to get good seats, I gulped down a glass of champagne.

A tiny glass of champagne

A bad mistake as I discover later (while standing outside a still closed cinema) that I felt dizzy and the senses magnified. Awful feeling that I have to wait at least half hour to clear ... I sat in the cinema dazed and seasick ... A nice reminder that I shouldn't drink so fast

hmmm so what does that have to do with this post ? ... actually there isn't any ... i just want to show you that I am a master of bad linkage : ) hahaha and expose my weakness to my dear readers

anyway, back in Uni, I saw this beer tv advertisement that had footage of guys doing all sort of outdoor activities and this voice started blooming over the speakers singing

"HOld me Hold me ... never let me go
Never let me go until you've told me, told me
What I want to know and then just hold me, hold me
Make me tell you I'm in love with you "

Of cos the guys are holding onto their beer bottles : ) It's not a V-Day Ad

I loved that song and wanted to find if it was taken from an actual song. But back then when I wasn't that Internet search savvy and my search produced a lot of rubbish. I gave up and actually thought that it was a song created purely for that beer ad ...

but of cos that was this nagging thought at the back of my mind and every now & then, I would think of that song used in the ad ...

fast forward to now ... a sudden whim and more experience with internet search later, I try searching the first line of the chorus and wah la ... I found the song : )

Mel Carter - Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me

There's another version of this song in better quality but I think this video sort of capture the mood of that era

a nice song to use for wedding ... don't you think ?

Christmas look funny

Four Christmases
Initially, I chuck this aside, thinking it was one of those quick cash in Christmas movie that had been done to death but surprisingly while watching the trailer before Choke, there were bits in it that made me laugh out loud ... tho there are parts i hope they won't drag it out in the actual movies, I kinda want to watch this

Mr Brooks and Me

Eversince My not-related-younger-brother got me a dvd copy of Mr Brooks from the states, I been considering whether to get a copy of my own.

"Huh" you might say ...

well there is this one reason that constantly bug the anal collector mentally in me (a secret between the buyer and me ... something he shouldn't had let me know) ...

and now! there is another good one to "buy (one) more" copy of Mr Brooks (in the upcoming economy downturn ... tsk tsk tsk). I just found out that there are lenticular cover for Mr Brooks and it seems like new re-release of the dvds. Kinda strange cos they didn't do well in the theatre box office and I don't think they did that well in the dvd sales & rental too. I hope I am wrong and this movie is picking steam in the dvd sales so the filmmakers might get to do their sequels / trilogy for Mr Brooks

In the meantime, I am hunting this one down

Approaching Zero!

Yahoo News posted this. An artist did zero dollar bill to protest about the breakdown of American Economy.

My only problem with this is that it's the wrong president on the bill.

Glad to be (in a) 20th Century Boys (screening)

isn't this a better poster than

Bizarrely Confusing and it got quite tedious follow the various subplots and characters (said to have 300 characters in this) but it was done in an entertaining fashion that the 2 hours odd screen time just zoom by and left me anticipating the following sequels (it turned out to be a trilogy! much to my friend's exasperation). For a manga movie, this movie is a page turner

Late drive Joy

On my late night drive back home ... I heard this song over the radio and his voice really mesmerising ... it's only after I read the lyrics than I realized what this song is actually about ... if only the melody is used for something more romantic than a relationship that's breaking up because of a third party ... haiz ... people having affairs shouldn't be listening to this song ... might make you think twice ah

Stevie Wonder - Lately

After this song ... i went to dig out his other song which equally captivated me but more positive : )

is this far enough for you?

I didn't really like the vocal for this but after hearing it for a couple of times, the song got stuck in my head ... and while doing work on the computer, I keep getting urge to turn this song on ...

Chicane - Far Away From You

Had been a fan since Uni days in Perth ... love walking down the long street to supermarket, listening to Chicane on my CD player ... haven't kept in touch with their latest news for a long time until recently the local Tv News mention that they were here performing a gig (and later, I found out that someone was giving out free tickets but that another story to tell and it's way too long to do it here).

Turned out that they just had a "new" album called "Somersault" out (not that new as in release dates n materials if you have been following the music leakage problem). Beside their old single "Stoned in Love" feat Tom Jones which I loved, "Time of your Life" was the other track that immediately became my favourite.

The rest like "Far Away from You" and other tracks in it didn't really hook me that quickly like their previous two albums but after a while, it grew on me and I am stuck listening to "Somersault" more than anything else ... I can't wait to check out their "Best of" that releasing soon ... will be featuring Keane in one of their tracks ...
