and the surprise test screening was ...

this marks the second time that i won tix to a Owen Wilson's movie (the first one being You Me and Durpee)

the funny thing was that we didn't know what we are watching until the movie title came up ... haiz ... was quite disappointed that it's not Son of Rambo and was scratching my head wondering why is this film being tested ...

another thing that I noticed was that Both Mr Fan & I were the oldest folks around ... the cinema was flooded with teens which this movie is targeted at ... I think we were the control subject ... if we didn't like it ... it just prove their theory right that it's for young folks ... but then again, i didn't like it that much compared to Mr Fan ...

My Mini Review

Unnecessary rehash of Superbad that wasn't that memorable at all. It's the same old growing up / facing your bully (obstacle) movie from Hollywood which is getting stale. Although Owen Wilson is less annoying in this compared to his performance in Me, You and Durpee, his performance here is not worth paying money to watch. The funny thing is that the show actually was more interesting and funny when he is not in it.

Lessons from Chess 3

Ambush from Afar

Was being attacked by opponent, with the enemy Queen looming near my King. I got a Knight protecting me and was baited when my opponent dangle a Bishop with my Knight's kill range ... when I moved my Knight away, His Queen came right in front of me and I got checkmated

what I didn't realize was that he got another Bishop right at the far corner of the chessboard .. protecting his Queen, making it useless for my King to attack his Queen and His Queen checking all my possible moves ...

Lessons Learnt

1 A backed up Queen is a great way to checkmate
2 Be aware of all the opponent's pieces
3 Be ware of easy bait ... even if it's careless mistake by the opponent

I just won a surprise test screening for tmr

Surprisingly, I gotten a email from UIP that notify me that I won a surprise screening tomorrow... the surprise here is that I didn't even know that I took part in such a contest.

anyway my partner is hopping that it will be IRON MAN , THE INCREDIBLE HULK, WANTED
, DRILLBIT TAYLOR, KUNG FU PANDA or DEFINITELY, MAYBE

... I m thinking it's more likely going to be some indie flick that's not even listed in their upcoming flicks (like Kite Runner) or best bet would be Definitely Maybe ... or maybe Son of Rambo : )

Will know tomorrow

Unexpected encounter at KL Tower

Went to KL Tower for the first time and had an unexpected encounter with a passing lighting Storm .... With Lightnings flashing like those tower visitors' camera ... I couldn't help it but pull out my trusty hp to snap some pix ... and the best pic is ...

Not very branchy or fancy but it's not easy to catch a lighting k ...

Some of the pix turn out to be like this

Not sure why but only managed to capture a portion of the lightnings

Does anyone know why does it appear like that?

Some Folks beside me was commenting that they sure don't want to be caught on the roof of any buildings around that area right now ... and looking back at these pictures now .... it sound like a great advice ... that is unless you got death wish n like to go off with a Bam : )

I can't go Home yet

Maroon 5 - Won't go home without you

I don't really like Maroon 5's songs or the lead singer's voice but there something about this song that make me press the play button over and over again ...

Maybe it's hopeful ... maybe it's tragic ... maybe it's a whinnier

I dont know what to say about this post

I really don't .... first it was the melody that got me hooked ... then it was the style that the music video was shot and finally the lyrics ... haunting isn't it ?

陳偉聯-I love you

you asked if I cried for you ...you told me that you don't believe that I loved you that much ... I don't know how to reply you, it probably sound fake and insincere anyway ... I don't think there any point in it but what I want to say, are words from this lyrics, i really did cry for you and I know it's over, the comforting thing is that at least there's memories and my dreams where I still can find the old you

Lessons from Chess 2

Pawns are as important as your Queens

had a sacrificial Game tonight where my oponent and I were removing all the major chess pieces such as the queen, bishop and etc ... the final deciding factors was how many Pawns do we have left and how fast could we reach the end of the chess board for the swap ...

so the crux in both games were defending all the Pawns left and protecting until they can become Queens ... yeah you can have more than one Queen in a game !

Begining to love the game of chest more now

Step 2 to my home theatre dream

Just gotten a basic projector at the IT fair ... after some last minute bargain ... I managed to get a 200 dollars discount and a projector screen ...

for my untrained eyes ... the images looked quite good

now waiting to get the bracket and for the screen to arrive

will aim to finish the installation of the bracket and rear speakers before April ... will open room for folks to check it out ...

the joyful lost

Made a bet with my Aunt n Cousin on the 7th Feb 08 that in one month time, I will be able to lose 1KG ... I was as heavy as 91.7kg

Weighting in today at my Aunt's super sensitive digital weighting machine ... The result of my one month effort is .... Drum roll pls ..... 87.3KG ... marking a lost of 4.4KG .... Just shy of 0.6KG

Lost the bet but this is one lost that I am happy about : )

It's quite a far fetch goal for me but as a tip from those weight lost program, setting such a goal is rather effective ... I swim + jog and avoided fried food + soft drinks more regularly than before. Not that I can't bear to lose the money but there is a tangible goal for me to work for and that helped me to stay "more or less" focus at doing the right thing ...

Could I have closed that 0.6kg gap? I could have as there were moments when I cheated with the wrong food and gaps of 2 - 4 days rest days without exercises

The problem now is that ... How am I going to lose more KGs? hmmm the bet is off already and without goal, I might not be that hardworking ... and there the Perth Holiday/Friend Wedding coming up soon ....

hmmm anyone wanna bet another month of weight lost with me ? 5kg, 5 bucks from now till 10th Apr

Lessons from Chess 1

Pawns can form a strong line of defense

As weak as they seems, they could be form up as a line of defense that could make the opponent hard to attack with their bishops and knights. the reason being no one want to swap their important pieces for a small pawn ...

had a game today and realized it was so hard to attack with all the pawns protecting each other and forming a long diagonal line across the board ...

No Dinner for me

After spending one hour of cooking with my Mom... I went out and inform Dad that Dinner is ready and if he requires me to set dinner for him ... He nodded his head and told to set for him ...

then I told him .. "Since you didn't cook, you wash up later then"

his immediate reply was "Then I don't want to eat dinner liao"

Couldn't believe my Dad's reply ... tsk tsk

a message from the past

Just read the news that a rare photograph of a young Helen Keller with her teacher Anne Sullivan has been uncovered recently.

While it was inspiring to learn how Anne Sullivan had helped Helen Keller to communicate while being blind and deaf, it didn't leave much of an impression on me until I came to the part quoted below;

"Jan Seymour-Ford, a research librarian at the Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown, which both Sullivan and Keller attended, said she was moved to see how deeply connected the women were, even in 1888.

"The way Anne is gazing so intently at Helen, I think it's a beautiful portrait of the devotion that lasted between these two women all of Anne's life," Seymour-Ford said."

I took a look at the picture again ... and it looked so much different to me now ... it suddenly felt more emotional and I begun to realize how important the discovery was

and since this is my blog and being so self centered, of cos it has bearings to what happen to me recently

recently, I was packing my stuff and uncover my old scuba diving records... along with it, I discovered a Shrek 2 movie post card with a message on it. It had a date and a light hearted reminder of what I already (should have) know(n) ... and it left with a P.S remark ...

it was left unsigned but I remembered who wrote it ... of all the messages I remembered where I kept, this one came out of no where and actually sank my heart like an anchor.

it felt awfully bittersweet ... although the writer might not even remember the message anymore but at some point of time, it was a simple manner of telling me how much I mattered in the writer's life. of course this silly o fool took everything for granted and it was swept away like one of those sweet nothings.

It's only after the lesson learnt and now taking a second look .... I realize how important those small things are in life ... I hope that I have truly learnt the lesson of not taking other people's feelings for granted or all I have left in the end, will be filled with tangible records of what were lost.

Explorers of the Abandon City

3 Ninjas Wannabes

It's been a long time coming and finally we visited the Infamous Abandon City in Singapore. A couple of months ago, Stefan told me that Abandon City will be torn down soon and we wanted to visit it before it's truly razed to the ground ... but as usual, we procrastinated and nothing happened. Until last night when we chatted about the new project that I was heading and we thought must definitely go see what Abandon City got to offer.

Heng it's still standing ... as the information provided by a photo forum, it was possible to go into the city as the parts of the wood planks that are used to block the main entry had been dislodged. After taking a peek, I decided to just venture in and discover the bloody mess

Glass were smashed all over floor ... Metal pieces lying everywhere and when I turn around, I found Loki and Stefan still discussing at the main wooden gate

Wah Lao er !!! Not very stealthy isnt it ??? had to rushed them in so that we won't be discovered so soon : )

The internal gate was sealed and there was really no way going thru by that way... ( here we have Stefan Not believing the Sign) so it was either making our ways to the left or to the right for our journey towards the city .... (which we finally chose the "right" way to go in)Incidentally , both ways were creepily dark and we regretted not bringing our touch lights as we thought it was only going to be a day trip

How Dark ?

It was this dark ... and this picture was taken with Flash ... Plus what was once thought to be chippy and cutesy now look morbid and evil .... yeah I am talking about those smiling faces on the tree

(Loki in the Isabella mood )

Nevertheless, we soon find bright lights in front of us ... (Noooooooo not that kind of bright light at the end of the tunnel... not yet)

(more coming later)

After Sneaking into the city, I realized that it was a must for any Self-respecting Singapore Film Buffs to visit this place at least once in their life! ... It was supposed to be the city that will put Singapore as the major player in film production in Asia but ended up as nothing more than a Abandon Junkyard. Although there was only one film made there ... there were potential for this place to grow but somehow it did not ... Should take a look and see what was made for this city ... see the effort and such that's going to be gone soon
