Lung Wa Hotel (Budget Stay in Kowloon Hong Kong)

Another budget hotel with small room and this is one of the better ones that I had in Hong Kong. It's really an apartment with 4 rooms (but with room number going up to 5 and missing a room number 4 - typical Chinese superstition) and a small reception area beside the door. It's not really a hotel but for a budget stay, Lung Wa Hotel was more than satisfactory and here's why.

First of all, the location! Facing Nathan Road, it's super close to Ladies Street and one of their subway (Yau Ma Tei MTR) exit is just a stone throw away. Temple Street is just a bit further and opposite direction of Ladies Street. It's also near The Cityview hotel and you can make use of the Free Airport Express shuttle K5 (from the Kowloon Station) that goes there every 20 mins. Accessibility is definitely a plus point here.

Secondly, for a small room, it is quite cosy and has all the amenities we needed (toothbrushes, hair dryer, towels, shampoo and etc). There's free Wi-Fi provided (the all important question when finding a hotel room these days).

The TV comes with a USB outlet that allows one to play media from a thumbdrive and the room was quite soundproofed (someone might have accidentally left loud techno songs playing at the reception area and I couldn't hear it until I came out to the corridor to fetch water). The room was bright and the lady owner clean our room and corridor daily. This friendly lady even introduce us to mini watermelon.

The building that the hotel is located in has security guards on duty 24 hours and there are three sets of keys that we used to access our room. 1 key for the building (in case the security guard is not around) 2 sets of card keys that we use to access the main hotel door and our own room door. Overall, no dubious people hanging around the building and the hotel felt very safe to stay in (as compared to the other hotels of the same price range).

Last but not least, there's a small lift to Lung Wa hotel (which is at 4th floor of the building). It makes lugging luggage up and down the hotel easier. When it comes to budget hotel, it's better to check if there's lift services.

Praises aside, here are some small things to nit pick.

The toilet/shower room is pretty small and the toilet bowl is not every well placed. One of my knee was up the wall whenever I was using it. Had to sit sideway to use it.

There's water provided at the common corridor but it's often depleted.

The reception is not manned all the time (especially at late night). There was once we needed towels and I had to call the lady on the phone. Lucky I bought a sim card that allows me to make free local call or otherwise, we might have no way of getting to her for the night and we wouldn't have towels that she forgot to replace. But then again, she quickly return back to the hotel and was very apologetic about it. Pretty nice service.

In summary, if I ever had to stay at the Kowloon side of Hong Kong, I would choose Lung Wa Hotel again. Good hospitality, location and price for a comfy stay... what else can you ask from a budget hotel?
