Thanks to this Free Seats Promo, the total cost for the entire flight from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur to Tokyo and back is about 10 bucks cheaper than my estimation.

Mt Fuji & Tokyo - 10 Jul 2012 to 19 Jul 2012

Just took the first step to climb Mt Fuji in 2012. Booked the return Airasia flight from KL to Tokyo for $303. Step 2 would be getting the return flight from SG to KL. Step 3 & 4 Learn Japanese conversation daily and start training for mountain climbing.

Targeting the climb either on Thur 12 Jul 2012 to Friday 13 Jul 2012 or any day within Mon 16 Jul 2012 to Wed 18 Jul 2012. A rest day for Thur 19 Jul and prepare for the journey back at 11pm.

Likely to reach Tokyo Haneda Airport at 2230hrs. Instead of rushing to check in at a hotel / hostel, I would probably try to stay in a capsule hotel or a manga cafe near Tsukiji. Afterwhich, wake up early to visit the fish market at Tsukiji for sushi breakfast. Then check out and make my way to the hotel that I booked.

Would also like to visit Shibuya Station for the very first time. Hopefully I can locate Hachikō bronze statue. Perhaps I would visit the National Science Museum of Japan to see the real Hachikō .

Last but not least, I would really like to visit the Sumo wrestling training and the Earthquake simulator in Tokyo. Didn't get to do that at the last trip in 2009 so hopefully, this time round, I would finally be able to accomplish that.

Two new dishes from Victor's Kitchen that stole my heart.

< Panfried Waterchest Nut Cake. It's not exactly a new dish. It's been available since May but I haven't been updating my blog.

Love the crispy exterior and the sweet taste of Waterchest nut inside. This is one dish that balance the sweetness well. Quite a refreshing change of taste when you have your fill of dim sim there.

from what I know, this dish is only available during the weekend, starting from Friday. Might be available on other days like Monday but call to check.

Next dish that I tried today

Golden Egg Yolk Lava Bun>

a dish that I been looking for a long time. a bun that is filled with salted egg sauce in a bun. I tried it in a KL dim sum restaurant and their version is a deep fried bun with the savory salted egg yolk in it. Although Victor's Kitchen version comes in a steam bun format, the watery yolk in it was way better than the one I had in KL. Sweet & savory yolk that gush out when you take a bite. Beware, I dripped this salted egg sauce all over my phone when I took my first bite.

these two dishes are currently my favorites and can't wait to bring my frens over to try.

Just in time for Halloween.

My good friend pointed out to me that one of the anime that I introduced to her is being shown on Animax. The Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Tales featuring the Medicine Seller, a occult detective that goes around solving and performing exorcism for strange mysterious cases.

I was introduced to this character via an article that presented Anime for Non Anime viewers (lost the url for that article). Among the list of 10 odd anime, The Medicine Seller series (a spin off from The Ayakashi Samurai Horror Tales series, called Mononoke) stood out the most for the unorthodox animation style and multi-layered story telling of supernatural tales.

The visual aspect presents a paper puppet type of animation that infuse with plenty of funky editing. There's repetitive motifs used to tell the story but it's never boring and it brings a chilling aura to the story. The artworks is filled with beautiful art of traditional Japanese culture, scenery and folklore that mesmerizing to look at.

So far, the story format that I encountered for The Medicine Seller's series were basically a supernatural story told in two to three episodes. It often starts with a demon terrorizing a group of people and the Medicine Seller happened to wander right into the action. He has a bunch of weapons to detect the demon spirit but the main weapon would be his sword that could only be unsheathe if he learn the spirit's Form, Truth and Regret.

In the pursue for the Form, Truth and Regret of the demon spirit, the story often reveal plenty of twist from the initial premise. It often dig out the ugly side of human and often the folks that are being terrorized are the guilty with a much more terrible sin that the manifestation of the demon spirit.

The Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Tales currently showing at Animax on Friday 8 to 9pm (repeat at 12 midnight) is up to Episodes 5 and 6. The story arc that they are done with was Bake Neko. The problem with Animax screening of Ayakashi was beside the obvious cropping / framing error, there's some form of censorship with the Anime. The problem is that the story telling is in a rather complex form and with the removal of certain scenes, it made it harder to understand what really went on. Personally, I feel that it's a good place to get acquainted with this series but Animax isn't really a good medium to fully appreciate this series. The story would tend to spill over the 2 episodes per week constrain and imagine waiting 1 week to compete the story. Plus the dense and complicated story would work best if all the relevant episodes are watch in one sitting.

Thankfully, the wonderful internet has the solution. So far I managed to find Bake Neko from The Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Tales, Noppera-bō のっぺらぼう, Nue 鵺 & Bakeneko 化猫 from the Mononoke TV series.

Highly recommended for folks who like weird twisty supernatural tales.

Was watching the extra segment on the Sunshine DVD (the Danny Boyle film) and came across this bit by Leonard Shlain... it's such a lovely way to describe Sunshine and how it link to the movie. A segment that I had to rewatch a few time to absorb the awe of what he was saying.

Fire is nothing more than sunlight stored.
So when you light a log in your fireplace... what you're witnessing is the release of the sunlight that was stored a long time ago in a primeval forest.
so there's something wonderful about starring at a fire and realiez that this is just another manifestation of sunlight ... coming out in another way

Ever since I tried this dish at my aunt's place, I been wanting to try make this dish. Then one day, while flipping my friend's cookbook, I happened to chance upon the recipe for this dish and wah la ... my attempt at recreating Black Vinegar Pork Ribs

It turned out to be better than I was expecting ... well during the process, I was expecting it to be disaster but in the end, it turned out to be quite all right ...

Look presentable and the black vinegar taste was quite power ... enveloping the ribs. The only problem was that the pork meat itself was quite stiff and tough...

But then it's goood enuff that I'm not sharing!

Finally Christopher Nolan had confirmed to LA Times that he and his brother will be working on the 3rd Batman movie. Although he didn't reveal the exact details of the highly anticipated sequel to The Dark Knight, there are some points that we were able to gather from the news article.

Jonathan Nolan is working hard on the script. Based on David S. Goyer and the Nolan brothers came up with the story and as of the moment, Jonathan Nolan is working hard on the script. An epic story has been promised and in Christopher Nolan we trust.
No supernatural or super-science characters that are not based on realities ... yup ... that means no Mr Freeze or other villains of such nature.
The 3rd movie will be the end. It's not like a on going comics series or TV series that goes on and on. It will be a wrap up of things that had been introduced
and when they were stuck during their brain storming for the 3rd Batman movie, David S. Goyer came up with a great story concept for a new Superman movie . It managed to excite Christopher Nolan into taking up the producer role for it so we are pretty excited to see what is it all about.

Sound like it's heading to the right track. It's going to be quite an uphill battle ... seeing how The Dark Knight ended ... making so much money and Health Ledger's death (making it rather difficult to put Joker in the movie but a lot of people would like to see Joker again) ... very hard to top the 2nd act but Batman is in good hands so let's see what the Nolan brothers can come up with.

Was watching tvb series with my folks and there was a scene of a couple who was going to express their love for each other. Previously, the girl said she is worried that he will also leave her (cos her previous lover n dad left her) eventually.

He then told her that he will never leave her and will be by her side till 70 or 80 years old. He revealed a cake that he made for her and on the cake, there a picture of them with white hair.

Was quite stunned and shocked to see that! rather unexpected tho I had a little gut feeling about it! I been planning to get a Samsung Jet phone but couldn't because I am tied to Singtel plans .... this news is just sweet!

How did I win the phone? All the participants need to do was like 1 phone from the companies and comment on why they like it ... well this was my attempt to win the phone ...

After trying out the smart phones out there, Samsung Omnia II is the one that stood out as my personal favorite.

The First and Most important reason would be the touchscreen reaction to my fingers and Omnia II had impressed me the most. It's a personal preference as the other phones do not react with the same comfort level. From there, It’s easy to utilize the impressive technology available in Omnia II.

Last but not least, the slick design of the phone and the capability of videoing in Dvd quality sealed the deal and ends my search for smart phones.

Recently, I wrote a birthday greeting on a Perth friend (acquaintance )'s facebook page. The thing is that I also noticed from his fb photo pages, I kinda suspect (with affirmation from our mutual friends) that he is gay (a Christian tho)

My Pro SingleHood Stance

Since Stefan requested that I post it on the blog ... here goes ...

recently on a facebook group photo, I got a fren who kept trying to change my stance on Singlehood ... since i m feeling a bit better today ... i posted a super long post and well ... maybe share it here

I been keeping quiet as long as I could... at first, I was too sick to participate in fb and then later I realize that it's basically 2 schools of thoughts here and it's like the Muslims preaching to the Christians.

but then when someone says "lets not harm the single women folks out there by encouraging richard"

it compels me to reply (sound like an exorcist in action but that’s how it cause me to react … hehehe)

first up, I don’t understand why Winnie would like to could "push" me away from singlehood ideology. It’s like the Pandora box… are you ready for what’s inside before you open it? Cos once I start flirting, there’s not stopping and I don’t know how many victims will I leave behind at my door steps.

Joke aside; different people have different ways of seeing things … what works for you might not be the same for me. You speak of “when u fall in love, it is "no longer a commitment"” and I do agree but then again, I got this to add … sometimes the “honeymoon don’t last (that) long” and just because one party is still in love, it doesn’t necessary means that the other party would still be doing the same lovely dovey stuff (like sending “I miss you” sms or make time during busy work week to meet up – just some examples, any similarities in real life is purely unintended )

Anyway like Hock Chuan said, “Its never easy to fall in love with someone n build a relationship n get married to share life together” … what I like to add on is that there are plenty other form of distractions out there right now and given with so many options, it’s really hard to stay with just one.

I am aware of my imperfection and understand my own limits / taste. With those understandings, I realize the odds are stacked against me and if I consciously seek “couplehood..., it will be akin to knocking my head against the wall. When I came to an understanding and acceptance of my Singlehood ideology, I became more liberated and happy. I get to do stuff that girlfriends (typically Singapore girls) would frown upon and I am no longer burden with that anymore. I know who I love and I don’t have to force that person to be committed to me.

Simply put it, there a sort of freedom that feels so good and limitless that refreshes the soul and clears the mind. I am no longer bound by the views of the society and get to live the life that I want.

But of course if I ever have chemistry with someone that I am attracted to, I won’t push that chance romance away … it’s just that I am not seeking and if it happens, good … if not, I got other stuff to look forward to (like surfing, climb Mt Fuji, meeting Yuma Asami and many many more)

Let me throw this question back to you Winnie… since you are so pro couplehood, are you aggressive seeking for love right now? What are the steps that you are taking to ensure the end of your singlehood soon? How are you finding love? Does your old love even haunts you anymore (I’m asking this because of the stories I heard and my own personal history)?

PS: I don’t mean to be harmful or hurtful to anyone with what I wrote. Please don’t be offended if I somehow did it. Read it like it’s meant to be funny...

PS 2: I am still on drugs when I wrote this … might not make much sense or I might deny it’s existence later on

This is the most difficult video so far... Video cam head became dirty at the very last min, very little material to work around, Subbing blindly as I know nothing about the Korean language and could only trust the translator on it while hopping that I didn’t lose anything in translation when I reedit what the translator said.

Haiz then waking up and see a 1 star rating on youtube… even before I get to publish this video at the Mx channel… it just felt rather disheartening. Is it really that bad? I don't even know what's wrong with it that the video deserve 1 star ... or was it my competitor's handiwork?

How to Make Sugar Glass

Sugar glass is a fake glass made from kitchen ingredients. It's used in film stunts because the edges aren't as sharp and dangerous. So when a bottle is broken over someone's head, or a person plummets through a window, this is the stuff you see. While you shouldn't tackle such outrageous stunts without the proper training and safety gear (see Warnings below) making your own sugar glass is an easy project.

Ingredients

2 cups water
1 cup light corn syrup
3.5 cups sugar
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
cooking spray

Steps

Mix water, corn syrup, sugar, and cream of tartar in the pot. Stir often and bring it to a boil slowly. If you boil it too quickly, it'll caramelize. As it heats up, it'll go from a cloudy color to clear.
Heat the mixture to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C), then remove from heat. This should take at least an hour. Use a candy thermometer, but be careful not to let it fall in the mixture (as shown in the video below). You might want to tie it with a string or find another means of holding it up without your hands.
- Note that somewhere between 210 and 240 degrees F, the temperature will stop rising temporarily, so don't think the thermometer stopped working.
- The sugar glass mixture will stick to the skin and cause burns. Don't dip your finger in or let it splash.
- At some point it may also begin to turn yellow. It will take lots of sugar glass making practice to learn exactly when is the right time to remove the mixture from heat so that the glass is clear, but still hard.
Spray the cookie sheet generously with cooking spray.
Pour the hot mixture very carefully (and with thick gloves) into the cookie sheet. Pour slowly to minimize bubbles.
Put the cookie sheet on an even surface. This will help the mixture spread out evenly so that the finished glass isn't thicker on some spots and thinner on others. Leave the mixture to dry for about an hour. After 25 minutes it should be cool enough to touch, but it isn't hardened, so don't take it out until the full hour has passed.
Carefully remove the dry glass from the cookie sheet. Take a knife and heat it up under hot water, then carefully cut along the very edge where the glass meets the edge of the pan. Carefully pry it up. Then flip it over and slowly lift the pan away from the sugar glass that is resting on your hand.

For best results, use the glass immediately. With time it'll warp and get sticky, so prepare the glass right before you need it.
Don't let the sugar glass sit in a moist area or direct sun. It's essentially candy and will start to melt or get sticky like candy. Humid days are not good days to work with sugar glass.
Make your "glass" as thick or thin as you want. You can also experiment with shapes by using a variety of molds.
Make colored "glass" by adding food colouring.
Make brown "glass" by using brown sugar.
If you have trouble removing the mixture residue from the pot, add water and boil it to dilute the sugar mixture. Pour it out carefully.

Warnings

Sugar glass is still sharp! There's still a good chance you'll get cut.
No, it does not taste good. Don't eat it.

Last Year, I had a bet with Mx Webmaster that by the time of his wedding, that all 4 "regulars" single columnists would still remain single ... by today, there about half a year left and I analyze my observation of the current status of the four participants .... offering him a chance to surrender now and lost half of the bet.

He used Gambling in a Casino analogy to describe my Observation and I thought it was quite spot on description on my observation.

#1 spread his bet all across the table. Betting on both Big and Small at the same time ... Whatever he wins, he will also lose ... he stands a high chance than the rest as he does frequently places his bet.

#2 avoid the Casino like a plague. Always seek solace in a Cinema. Unlikely to win at all unless the banker comes looking for him in the dark theatre.

#3 spend too much money on his gadgets. Might have no more money to go betting ... therefore reducing his chance in winning.

#4 is too cheapo to bet ... spend too much time in trying to get into the gambling section via FOC method.... not likely able to charm lady luck.

the above analogy and Observation should be taken in a candid manner ... it lacks substantial data and could only serve as a one person opinion. hope it will not offend anyone (or the participants) while reading it ...

Bad Day for Covering a Movie event

I had one of the most lousy day in covering a movie media event. Felt so discriminated upon and so many things screwing up for me.

1st ) The Video cam I been using, suddenly got problem with playback. Then I realize the recording device wasn't working. All this happen right before I make my journey to the venue. Panic Mode and rush to get a head cleaner to solve the problem.

then encounter a orchard rd electronic uncle trying to convince me that no point saving this camera ... i think he want to sell me one but not in a million year will i buy from them. Only delay time .... then I went to other store and managed to get it for 26bucks !! damn ex the cleaner!! but the uncle seller was "nice" enough to sell me for 3 bucks cheaper ... was 29 at first

2nd) rush to the venue and waited for 45 mins for Gianna Jun ( Jun Ji-hyun ) appearance. That main press con only lasted 15 mins! then ask us to wait for about 2 hours for one on one.

3rd) No food provided. and the venue is at some hush hush hotel in sentosa which i was told a night stay there cost 600 bucks and onwards ... notthat the view is that great

4th) when to find food at sentosa ... was directed to this overpriced hot dog stand and a car park that charge 3 bucks per entry... still not that bad until when i try to get out ... the exit barrier can't detect my entry information! Got stuck there for a while as I couldn't get thru the ppl in charge

5th) during small group interview ... while i was video-ing ... i was told to stop recording! at first they say no photos but i didn't know they meant no video too ... which is quite funny cos we are not using flash... upon questionning, the organiser told me that only TV could film this group interview!

So Stupid !!!! Tv broadcast only last a day or two while my youtube video will last so much longer on the net !!!

Guess I was being melodramatic again

Today, when I was in the midst of packing stocks and rushing delivery ... this thought came into my mind... the same one that you read above ^ ... the Birth and Death of Attraction.

I had my fair share of Attraction and it usually comes hard and fast. Strike you with overwhelming bliss and untapped energy. Life will be like Sunshine even during the dark nights.

But I often wonder ... what created that sparks in between two person? How did it happened? Was it the image or attitude portrayed? or the ability to articulate in sms / msn format? Or was it that split second moment when one did something that he or she usually don't?

It could be one or numerous things and the funny thing is that, some might be aware of the what, when, why , which and how did the sparks happened ... many others won't have a clue ... like many others, I often scratch my head and wonder about's cupid shooting style and method.

Just like I don't know that exact moment when attraction was formed ... I am equally clueless when did attraction dies of a quiet and unnoticeable death. It's often not going to be a major accident that happens in front of you (tho I been thru some big drama rama hurtful fights that killed all my attraction for that person).

It's often likely to be small little things or incidents that caused one to lose all attraction for another. It could be how that person scratch his head when he is thinking or the sight of that person is wearing out on the beholder. Or it could be a new attraction had come along and old toy is well ... old. It could be 101 things and sadly I wonder, will the either party be aware of that it happened.

So while packing ... I wonder ... if we could ever pin point the date, time, location and the "what did I do" moment that caused the sparks or the smothering. It will be great to freeze frame those moments... take a snap shot and keep those photos in a bag filled with memories.

I thought it would be easy and could finish a couple of them by Good Friday but ended up finishing only one more video for this interview session. The reason was that I find that the flow was going well and there are some problems in the recordings that needed to be clear

Early this morning, a couple of my friends buzz me about this newspaper ad and I was kinda expecting it ... dont know why but should be my ESP buzzing when I was writing the review ...

Anyway I enjoyed this Japanese film and another Japanese one that dealt with Fatman Fantasy which is out in the same time(but I don't think one will get any sponsorship from the distributors).

Meanwhile, I would like to recommend you to watch this ... School Days with a Pig at all good Cathay cinemas. Specially Children, Teachers and Parents.

Strange Encounter on the Drive Home

Driving back home and while making a sharp turn, a man stood in the middle of my path. It felt like he wanted to be knocked but I stopped in time & waited for him to clear the road.

I didn't horn him and gave him that "What are you doing" look while he stared at me, maichiam like blaming me for not banging him.

After finishing watching a Late Night Gala Movie with my friend, we waited at a Orchard Road Traffic Light Junction. It was still red for the pedestrians but there's no cars coming from either side of the road and majority of the pedestrians from our side started to jay walk.

My friend turned to me and say: "Let's go"

I stopped him and said:"but it's still Red"

He replied: "Don't worry, there's Safety in numbers ... so many people crossing now, it will be quite safe"

I looked at him and answered: "Well in that case, I am sure that the bowling pins felt quite safe too when facing a bowling ball rolling towards them "

I was calling up the Zoo for my friend's behalf. He wanted to book seats for Breakfast with Wildlife and wanted to get the seats that closest to the animals. He didn't mind forking out extra money just to get those "special seats".

So I called... and a lady with a nice voice picked up the phone. I explained to her that I am doing this on my friend's behalf and tried my best to secure those "special seats" (tired to bribe her with money and using the honeymoon reasoning, the "specially come over from Perth for this breakfast thingy" reasons).

Surprisingly, she asked if I was the "hubby" who is too shy to admit that I'm booking the breakfast thingy for my "wife". I was amused that she would say something like that and I told her if I am that "hubby", I would gladly admit it.

We went on with the bookings and she asked for my friends' name... which was Matt. Subsequently she asked for Matt's contact number and I told her that it would be better if she called me instead as Matt's carrying a Aussie phone. Gave her my hp number and she asked for my name.

After telling her my name, I told her: "See ... Matt and Richard are not the same person. I wouldn't be able to give you two different names if I was pretending to be not the "hubby" right?"

We had a laugh over that.

Later that evening, I told this story to my friend and my friend commented that I was flirting with her.... which made me wonder ... did I? hehe to a degree, I did feel that after putting down the phone but I wonder ... did I really?
